Never feel like it is steady on the floor. Baking in the oven also gives me perfect heat. This tove is perfect, and all the cooking I do nothing is uneven. My last stove, even though I kept it very clean, including the burners, they weren't alway even heat or flame. Example simmer is really a simmer.which is important in some of dishes I make Always keeps the Tempterature I've choose. I can simmer or fry foods with a touch of a button. I like the top layout, and there's plenty of room for big pots. The flame is easy to control and when it's set correctly (watch the color of the flame) it heats evenly and thoroughly. The temperature control for the oven, which we don't use much, is electronic. This one has controls that aren't too stiff nor too sensitive. I like basic knob controls for the cook top of a gas range. This unit has the top spacing we needed and it did NOT have a flat cook top (which does not work well with pressure canners). We do a lot of canning and preserving, and you really need a gas stove to do that well (electric isn't responsive enough). We bought this gas oven (since we have electric inside our home) for our cooking kitchen which is set up in our garage. All in all, it's a durable appliance that's working strong and reliably in its second kitchen for a second family and going strong! We soaked them in boiling water and they worked like new after that. The parts of the burners that produce the flames were a litrle gummed up when we initially recieved the used appliance, causing them to light and heat unevenly. The grills on the range are easy to wash too! The temperatures are reliable and the oven preheats quickly. We celebrated by roasting a turkey, because we could finally fit a whole turkey in our oven! It may not be huge, but we love the standard size oven! Because propane is so expensive, we can't afford to use the self cleaning option but it's a breeze to wipe down. It was a huge nuisance! So (as you can imagine) our Hotpoint range finally made the kitchen feel like home. Prior to receiving it, we used an RV-size propane oven/range combo. We live off the grid, so our appliances must all run on propane, including this one. We were given our Hotpoint Freestanding Gas Range as a used hand-me-down appliance from a family member. True Living off the grid doesn't feel like camping anymore! You can buy cleaner at the store that is specifically made to clean kitchen appliances, and you can use that to clean your stove. Most stoves are not very easy to clean, but this one is not so bad. It could definitely be improved, but it is not a bad design. The design is very basic, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I had this stove for a little over a year, and I never really had any problems with it. The range on the top of the stove works great too! The heat is distributed evenly throughout the oven and it cooks the food correctly. The oven settings are electric, so you just set it. The controls are very easy to navigate, and the knobs are easy to turn. I would recommend this for anyone who wants a decent-priced, reliable stove for their kitchen. The Hotpoint Freestanding gas range stove is better than the average stove. I had this stove at my old apartment two years ago. This is a basic, low budget gas stove from a brand that has been around for decades and I would recommend it if price is a concern and you do not care about a lot of bells and whistles. The broiler works fantastically - meat is evenly browned and cooked just like it might have been had I used an outdoor gas grill - great for winter cooking to get a grilled taste and not have to go out in the cold ! This is a self cleaning oven but I line the bottom shelf with heavy duty aluminum to catch the spills and just wipe them up or toss the aluminum foil as needed.
I love the timer that reminds me when something is done. When I cook a lasagna or a cake in the oven, it cooks much more evenly and the temperature controls are very accurate. One feature I do miss in my old range is that it had a " night light " that you could use on the top of the stove which is missing in this range but that does not affect performance obviously. There is a black cover on the top that is also removeable for easy cleaning which I wash by hand - cleanup is a breeze ! The grids that cover the stovetop are easily removeable and I toss them in the dishwasher. There is also a light for the oven to better view the pie or cake you are baking so you can peek in the window of the oven door rather than having to open it and let heat escape.
The oven controls are digital for preheat, bake or broil and there is a clock and timer for cooking. The gas burners on top cook food evenly, much better than an electric range. I have owned this Hotpoint gas range for about 5 years now and I am very pleased with its performance.
